In the late 80s Plasmabat became a prog trio, and the three of us played just about every bar in the Detroit area. Detroit was a dying city, and there were many bars, none of which had the money to pay really good bands, so those of us who had strange little bands and didn't expect much money could play a lot of gigs. Many times we'd just play for the members of the other bands on the bill, and vice versa.

Hugh asked his brother Glenn to play guitar so he could concentrate on playing bass and keyboards. He asked Doug Gourlay, who he knew from his fabulous playing in the prog band Sublime Wedge and the art-folk band Only a Mother, to play drums.

Call Me Eddy 03:30
Call me Eddy, 'cause that is all I am I'm a fleck of bubbly foam, on a wave that gently beats the sand. The tide will bring me in, leave me swirling in some backwash on the beach. I'll settle in a moment, but while I can I'll see what I can reach. Call me, call me, Eddy Call me Windy, 'cause that is how I feel I might just set your hat on end, that's what it takes to show you I am real. I know that you can't see me, I know I'll never pass this way again. When all your hats are on the ground I'll know that I'm not just a might have been. Call me, call me, Windy Call me Sparky, 'cause that's all I hope to be And when I land on autumn leaves I'll start a fire that jumps from tree to tree. I might be very small, and I might not burn for very long at all. But in the dark you'll see me, and I'll leave a mark wherever I might fall. Call me, call me, call me, call me, call me, call me, Eddy.

Eloise 04:25
Eloise cooks my breakfast hot, Eloise serves me lunch and she's my, my gracious host for dinner. Eloise picks up after me, she scrubs the tiled floors and ceilings; the ammonia makes me dizzy. Eloise keeps me warm at night, Eloise holds my hand and she whispers in my ears when I feel lonely. Eloise never judges me, when I've forgotten how to act, I forget humanity. This is where I need to live, this is where I want to die, this is where my enemies cannot reach me. Eloise you'll always be my home and my best friend and my redeemer. Morning is when I lover her best, morning is when she shines so brightly, the sun shines through the bars and windows. Daytime is when her joyous noises echo through every hall and every room that holds a friend and not a stranger. (whispers) Evening is when she's winding down, when she turns the covers back. My door locks from the outside. Sometimes at night I feel uneasy someone's still trying to find me now, but in confinement I have freedom! This is where I need to live, this is where I want to die, this is where my enemies cannot reach me. Eloise you'll always be my home and my best friend and my redeemer. This is where I need to live, this is where I want to die, this is where my enemies cannot reach me. Eloise you'll always be my home and my best friend and my redeemer, my redeemer, my redeemer, my redeemer.

Homo Gal 239 02:57
Homo Gal 239, you know that's just too much for me. I'll take my money some place else, or maybe I can get some free. God help me, god help my lactic obsession. God help me, with my pre-weening regression. You know that I like chocolate, and you know that I like white. Frosty in the morning, and blood warm late at night. God help me, god help my lactic obsession. God help me, with my pre-weening regression. Open up your carton babe. Let me get my straw. Ooh, I hate it when it's sour babe, I hate it when it smells like that. (Moo)

JOY! 02:33
Aaah! Splash me with some cold, clear water Knock me down and hold me under Slap my face a stinging blow Pinch my cheek step on my toe I've just got to scream with joy Like a child with a new toy I might sing or I might cry Hold me close or let me fly! Walking with my head down won't do Clear a path that I can dance to Please don't let me run you over Lift the window, run for cover! China plates come crashing down You are deafened by the sound Blinded by the gamma light Moved to laughter by the sight! Aaah!

Lizard Ass 03:40
Lizard Ass! Lizard Ass! Crepe suzette. Peaches and Bosco, and vinaigrette. Lizard Ass! Freezer burn. Duodenum, and Thomas Hearns. This is my world in 1989, hazardous toxic waste, visible panty lines. Lizard Ass! Lizard Ass! Lapidary!. Creme de menthe. The Virgin Mary. Lizard Ass! For spacious skies! For biker gangs. And apple pies! This is my world in 1989, hazardous toxic waste, visible panty lines. Argh!

The lights go out, the fire burns low, the embers cool, the lights go ... So sad to watch a sunset, so silently it falls down. The lights go out, the switch is thrown, the shade are drawn, the lights go ... So sad to watch a sunset, so silently it falls down. The lights go out, the fire burns low, the embers cool, the lights go out, the lights go out, the switch is thrown, the shades are drawn, the lights go ... So sad to watch a sunset, so silently it falls down.

Wretched Girl All dressed up tonight in lavender and black She looks just like a vampire, always on its back. She makes me take the garbage out, she smokes my cigarettes She uses up my Speed Stick, and I'm always hot and wet! I don't know why I live with her ... She's a wretched girl! When she feels a little down she goes out for a drink. And then she gets some breakfast and it winds up in my sink! I don't know why I live with her, she acts just like the weather. And all my joints they start to ache, whenever we're together. I don't know why I live with her ... She's a wretched girl!

Writhe 03:12
What do you do, in the parking lot, and your feet are bare, and the pavement's hot? What can you do, with a startled cry, and a cold pop can, on your naked thigh? You writhe! (Twist and turn and crash and burn, up and down and all around, back and forth and south and north, in and out and all about) You writhe! Writhe! Writhe! What do you do, with a public itch, in a private place, ain't that a bitch? What can you do, tied down with leather, and you feel the touch, of the lightest feather? You writhe! (Twist and turn and crash and burn, up and down and all around, back and forth and south and north, in and out and all about) You writhe! Writhe! Writhe!

about

The trio recorded quite a few songs in the 80s, none of which were released at the time. Sometime in the 2000s Hugh gathered together the abandoned mixes (and mixed a couple of songs which were recorded but never had mixes before, Out of Context and Lizard Ass) and put together this collection.
